Where to watch the 2025 UCI Road World Championships

The UCI Road World Championships are taking place in Rwanda's capital Kigali this week as the British cycling team look to add to their medal tally.

The team is spearheaded by Olympic silver medallist Anna Henderson and double Olympic mountain bike champion Tom Pidcock, fresh from his best-ever Grand Tour finish.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming championships.

What is the UCI Road World Championships?

The history of the road cycling worlds can be traced back to 1921 when only male amateurs participated. The first championships where professionals participated occurred six years later at Germany’s Nürburgring.

The 2025 event marks the 98th edition of the championships and is historic in the fact it is the first to be held in Africa.

What events are there at the 2025 worlds?

A total of 13 medal events, six per gender plus the mixed relay, will take place across the eight days.

The events are split into three categories: elite, U23 and junior.

Within the elite events, there is a road race and time trial for both men and women and also the mixed relay.

With the exception of the relay, the same events will also take place in the U23 and junior categories too.

Ones to watch in Kigali

The strength of the under-23 contingent traveling to Rwanda points to the fact that British Cycling's focus is on the future, with only three years to go until the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Zoe Backstedt has already won gold in the Women’s U23 time trial and Cat Ferguson will be looking to follow up with another spot atop the podium. The pair have both won at World Tour level this year, while two of the men's elite road race squad - former Tour of Rwanda winner Joe Blackmore and Bjorn Koerdt - were both eligible for the under-23 events.

Where to watch

The 2025 UCI Road World Championships are taking place from 21-28 September around a 15.1km circuit around Kigali.

UK-based fans have a range of options to watch. BBC Two, BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer are broadcasting the action, while TNT Sports are also showing the Championships live.
