Four clubs, 40 athletes, one championship. The future of urban sports is here.
The first ever X Games League will kick off in Sacramento this summer, with four teams going head-to-head to rack up points for a chance at the overall title.
Taking inspiration from the fast and furious racing of Formula One, the XGL brings higher stakes as standalone events take a backseat to the importance of the team.
What is the format
There are two XGL seasons per year: one summer (skateboarding and BMX) and one winter (snowboarding and skiing).
Each will see the 40 best summer and winter athletes compete for franchise-owned clubs under a three-stop format leading to championship at the last stop of the season.
The summer clubs - Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, New York and Tokyo - will see the athletes compete for victory together, with stops at Sacramento, Japan and New Orleans kicking off the inaugural summer season.
Four more winter clubs will be announced in due course ahead of their season, as the snow action gets underway.
At each X Games stop, the below disciplines will be designated as league competitions where athletes on Clubs will compete for points.
Summer:
Skate - Street, Park, Vert
BMX - Men's Street, Park, Men's Dirt
Winter:
Snowboard - Superpipe, Big Air, Slopestyle, Knuckle Huck
Ski - Superpipe, Big Air, Slopestyle, Knuckle Huck
A first-place finish earns 100 points, second receives 85, third gets 75, and top-seven spots earn points, with 8th–12th receiving zero.
The highest-scoring club after three stops, concluding in New Orleans, will hold the title of the inaugural X Games League victors.
How were the teams decided
The new XGL is steeped in history, with the founders including champions and Olympians from around the world.
Each team has a general manager, with the athletes chosen through a 'snake-style' draft over five rounds, with each club picking two athletes per round to reach their 10-strong star studded roster.
The first summer draft took part at the Cosm Los Angeles in Hollywood Park during March, with the best BMX and skateboarders locked into their new teams for the months ahead.
The first overall pick was 16-year-old Chloe Covell of Australia, who was selected by XC New York. Covell has earned eight X Games medals, including five golds, since making her debut in 2022.
Team GB's two-time Olympic bronze medallist Sky Brown, who was recently crowned park world champion for the second time, was chosen as the fifth pick and will compete for the XC Sao Paulo under the general management of Bob Burnquist.
