Matt Weston and Marcus Wyatt could not hide their disappointment after finishing 15th and 16th in the men's skeleton.
The sliding duo had arrived in Beijing with high hopes of adding a second male skeleton medal to the Team GB ranks after Dom Parsons' bronze in PyeongChang.
But it was not to be as they were unable to keep up with the pace over four runs set by the lighting fast Germans as Christopher Grotheer claimed gold and his compatriot Axel Jungk scooped silver.
Weston had won Britain's first World Cup gold for 13 years in November when he shared a three-way tie at the top in Igls but was unable to reproduce a similarly spectacular performance.
"It’s disappointing, I’m not happy with where I finished and I think we can do a lot better as sliders," said Weston.
“But it’s one to go away and review - I can’t put my finger on why it went wrong at the moment but it’s one to review and we will come back stronger from.
"I didn’t slide very well. I think there were a lot of mistakes in my runs which cost me a lot of time."
But the debutant was still chuffed to fulfil his childhood ambition of becoming an Olympian, even if he was targeting a higher finish.
He added: “Now I can call myself an Olympian - that’s a lifelong dream, so it can't all be too bad.”
Wyatt echoed his colleague's sentiments after finishing just one place further back but admitted he was pleased with his ability to finish with his best performances of the week.
"It has been a really tough year for me from the get go, I’ve really struggled this year," he admitted.
“I came out here and it was a little bit similar but I’m really proud of how I came out here today to get my two best runs.
“I’m proud of how it went but ultimately where I’m sat is not what I came here aiming for.
“We will go home, we will review like we would anyway and I don’t doubt we will bounce back stronger.”
The 30-year-old insisted he was not looking to hang up his sled and revealed there was still plenty of hunger to make it to Milano Cortina 2026.
"I hadn’t planned to retire," he revealed.
"I don’t like leaving like this, this is not where I wanted to be. Maybe there’s a little bit more fire in the belly because I know I can come back and do better so four years’ time hopefully, that’s the objective."
