LA28 have provided their most comprehensive plan of venues for the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games with a host of iconic stadia and locations set to feature.
The announcement follows approval for the venues from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board at the start of April.
For those chasing 1984 Olympic Games nostalgia, equestrian will return to Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California which hosted the event over 40 years ago.
Team GB will be hoping for a reprise of Virginia Elliott MBE’s (formerly Virginia Holgate-Leng) heroics as she clinched bronze in eventing against the backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains.
The return of baseball also draws on Olympic heritage as it has been confirmed it will take place in the iconic venue of Dodger Stadium.
In terms of iconic locations, it does not get much better than Venice Beach in Los Angeles which will become the new home for triathlon as well as the starting location for road cycling and the marathon.
It will see British athletes head down the famous seafront, switching Barbie and Ken’s rollerblades for trainers and bikes.
Also epitomising the Los Angeles lifestyle, surfing will be held at Trestles Beach in San Clemente, California.
The Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area will host Olympic events for the first time in its history, with a number of sports set to be hosted to the north of the city.
Modern pentathlon and 3x3 basketball will join BMX freestyle, BMX racing, skateboarding park and skateboarding street at the action-packed venue.
In its debut at the Games, squash will be producing storylines quite literally straight out of Hollywood as it is set to be hosted at Universal Studios Lot in the San Fernando Valley.
Sport climbing will take place in the picturesque Convention Center Lot in Long Beach while target shooting will be within walking distance of another Olympic sport for the first time in a temporary indoor range nearby. Shotgun shooting is set to be hosted at the Shotgun Center in South El Monte.
Unlikely bedfellows rugby sevens and archery will share the Stadium in Carson where LA Galaxy usually play their home matches, while volleyball will be played in the Arena in Arnheim.
LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover said: “We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and we’re proud to share the plan that will make it happen.
“The 2028 Olympic venue plan invites communities from across the region to celebrate the Games coming to their backyard with the most exciting sports staged at some of the world’s top-tier existing stadiums and arenas, famous beaches and purpose-built temporary structures.”
