Three Brits in the top 10 at halfway stage of women's skeleton competition

Tabby Stoecker has success on her mind after the first two runs in the women's skeleton saw her sitting in fifth place overnight at Milano Cortina 2026.

The 25-year-old is leading an impressive trio of British women on the track in Cortina with a time of 1:55.01, with Freya Tarbit in sixth and Amelia Coltman ninth.

With three athletes in the top 10, it shows just how strong the British pack are.

However, after never leaving the top three during the six training runs, Stoecker knows that there is plenty more in the tank and medals are still to play for at the halfway point of competition.

“In the women's field it's really tight, so it's also to play for in my mind tomorrow," she said.

"I definitely made a few mistakes on track. Some of the ones I was making in training, which is a bit frustrating.

"I would have liked to fix them for the race, but equally not surprising.

“It's a four-heat race, so I think if you take just what you do in day one and let that defeat you, the race is already over, right?

"We've had so much practice with this type of thing with our World Champs in the past and I've had mixed days, mixed ones on the first day before and my second day I've come back and I've re-thought.

"So I'm hoping to bring that same energy tomorrow.”

Stoecker was sitting in third after her first run but struggled to find the same form in the second, and slipped down the standings to fifth.

Tarbit saw a different move, transforming an initial eighth place finish into sixth overall with a time of 1:55.16.

After placing the lowest of the three British athletes in the training runs, Tarbit's second competition run equalled Stoecker's first of 57.40 seconds and she was thrilled to see it come together when it mattered most.

“That's probably the best one I've ever done down the track so I'm really, really proud of it," she said.

“I was just fixing mistakes from run one. It was a solid start but it was a little bit scrappy so I was really clear on my plan, fixing mistakes and I just felt really good on the sled.

“I am just taking it all in, taking it heat by heat and hopefully we can have some more solid runs tomorrow."

Similarly to Stoecker, Coltman left her two runs rather critical of herself in Cortina, despite rising one place between her first and second.

“I'm very critical of myself, I'm a very critical person so I'm not like super happy with my execution on the track to be honest," she said.

“Training was going really well and I've been really struggling with just the first corner today so it's not the best way to start but do you know what I actually really enjoyed it."

All three women will return on Saturday for their final two runs as the women's skeleton medals are decided.
