Ellia Smeding made history by finishing sixth overall and third in the 1,000m at the European Speed Skating Championships in Hamar, Norway.
The 24-year-old claimed third place in the 1000m behind a Dutch one-two of Olympic silver medallist Jutta Leerdam and Femke Kok.
Smeding held off the challenge of Karolina Bosiek of Poland to finish third by just 0.04 seconds and cap off an impressive showing at the Championships.
The Beijing Olympian recorded a fifth-place finish in the first 1000m race of the meet behind the Dutch pair, Austriaโs Vanessa Herzog and Bosiek, missing out on the podium by 0.56 seconds.
In the two 500m sprint races Smeding placed inside the top ten, finishing seventh and eighth respectively as Kok and Leerdam took home a title apiece.
Smeding saved the best until last as she improved on her time in the first 1000m race to come home in 1:17.13 in what was a hugely significant performance.
"I feel I am getting to a higher level,โ Smeding said. โThat I finished with a 1000-metre podium was a surprise on the one hand, but also a confirmation of my hard work.
โI am so happy with this result and it really motivates me to take the next steps."
The Aylesbury native became the first woman to represent Team GB in long track speed skating since Kim Ferran and Mandy Horsepool in 1980, when she placed 27th in the 1500m at Beijing 2022 before finishing 23rd in the 1000m 10 days later.
This season, Smeding has already broken her personal best times across the 500m, 1000m and 1500m, with all three milestones coming in Calgary in December.
Smeding twice placed inside the top ten at the World Championships in March of last year, both times in the 1000m races.
Smedingโs attentions now turn to this year's World Championships in Heerenveen in March where she will compete in the 1000m and 1500m.
