Sky Brown shortlisted for Piotr Nurowski Best Young European Athlete Award

Team GB's youngest ever summer Olympian, Sky Brown, has been shortlisted in the finals of the 10th Piotr Nurowski Best Young European Athlete Award.

Brown amazed the crowds in Tokyo with her routine at the Ariake Urban Sports Park in the women’s park event, for which she won a bronze medal at just 13 years of age.

Olympic success adds to the World Championship bronze and X Games gold already achieved over the last two years and this latest accolade is unlikely to be the last one bestowed on the prodigious teenage talent.

The Piotr Nurowski award, run by the European Olympic Committee, recognises athletes for their endeavours throughout their early Olympic careers, be it at European Youth Olympic Festivals, European Games or at senior Olympic Games, both summer and winter.

Team GB athletes have been recognised often in the Piotr Nurowski awards with Tom Daley (2011), Abbie Wood (2013), Giarnni Regini Moran (2014), Luke Greenbank (2015) and Amy Tinkler (2016) all being recognised for their sporting achievements at various summer Olympic youth and senior levels.

The other four finalists in this year’s nomination process are artistic gymnast Viktoria Listunova (Russian Federation), javelin athlete Adriana Vilagos (Serbia), freestyle swimmer David Popovici (Romania) and 49kg taekwondo athlete Adriana Cerezo Iglesias (Spain).

The award was created in 2011 in memory of former president of the Polish Olympic Committee. It encourages young European athletes to pursue careers in sport, as well as inspire future generations to adopt healthy lifestyles based on Olympic values and principles.

The winner will be announced at the 41st EOC Seminar in Samorin, Slovakia on November 25th, 2021.
