Nottingham-born Becky Downie is a Commonwealth Games champion and two-time European champion on the uneven bars.
She won a British title at the age of 12, made her Olympic debut for Team GB in 2008 and World all-around team bronze in 2015.
What number matters most to you?
“The number seven – because 7 points is the value of a potential bar routine start I've been working towards for years and years.
It’s finally coming together and my dream is to make the team for Rio 2016 and showcase it there.”
When did you first know that you were talented and could become a professional athlete?
“I think it was probably when I was 12-years-old and I won my first British title.”
Which part of your kit or equipment do you replace most often?
“My hand guards take a beating during competition and training and I replace them at the rate of about a pair a month – so 12 pairs every year.”
Has your sport taken you to many places?
“Yes, definitely. I have competed in 15 countries so far. Tokyo has been one of my favourite cities because the culture and space is just like another world.”
Do you have any preparations or routines?
“I have 1 special bag that I keep my competition leotards in. It is handmade and it comes everywhere with me.”
What is your ambition for Rio?
“I have 1 big ambition and that is to try to help Team GB women get our first Olympic team medal – and to enjoy every part of the journey along the way.”
What is your most impressive gym stat?
“My maximum heart rate during an elliptical cardio session is 93 BPM.”
