Ormerod takes silver in historic Air and Style competition

Katie Ormerod’s successful season shows no sign of slowing down after she claimed a silver medal at the Air and Style big air competition in Innsbruck.

The British snowboarder etched her name into the record books again, grabbing a podium finish as women made their debut at the competition in Austria.

The 19-year-old had been sitting in first place after the second of three rounds but an impressive last run by Finland’s Enni Rukajarvi to finish on combined score of 176.33 put the pressure on the Brit.

And with a slight stumble on her landing, Ormerod failed to improve her score – with the best two of three runs counting – remaining on 146.33.

That was still good enough for silver though as Ormerod, who won her first World Cup competition last month and currently lies second in the World Cup standings, added to her growing medal collection.

"I'm super happy to take second in such a historic event. It feels great to get on the first ever girls podium,” said Ormerod, who became the first woman ever to land the fabled double cork 1080 in 2014.

In the men’s competition, Rowan Coultas and Billy Morgan finished fifth and sixth respectively.
