Team GB's curlers have started fast but now they need to finish strong to reach the semi-finals at Milano-Cortina 2026.
Bruce Mouat's team earned their fourth win from five with a comfortable round-robin victory against Germany, continuing the theme of building an early lead, maintaining pressure and then seeing the job through.
However, in their second match of a packed Super Sunday, they lost to unbeaten Switzerland after an extra end at the conclusion of a tight, tense and gripping contest.
Mouat and teammates Grant Hardie, Hammy McMillan Jr and Bobby Lammie are third in the standings and have a chance to further secure their top-four status when they play Norway on Monday afternoon.
Mouat is pleased with their performance levels and another win over fifth-placed Norway would move them closer to a guaranteed medal match.
"If we do see them [Switzerland] again, we're probably doing something right, they're playing amazing right now. So yeah, it's going to be exciting if we do get to play them again," he said.
"It's two teams locking heads I guess, and trying their best to make life as hard as possible for the other team.
"And it's pretty exciting to play against those guys and I'm pretty sure they feel the same when they play us."
Mouat’s rink started the day in excellent fashion against a Germany team they beat at both the European and World Championships last year and rarely looked in danger here.
The teams shared four points through three ends but the British quartet soon moved 5-2 ahead and pulled further clear to win 9-4.
Switzerland, in contrast, arrived in the evening unbeaten and the match was uber-close. Only one end resulted in more than a single point scored as the two teams cancelled each other out.
Team GB scored a point in the last end to force an extra one but Switzerland held the hammer and prevailed.
There were notably more British flags inside the Cortina Curling Centre, and McMillan is hoping the support can spur them on.
“Lots of people arrived yesterday,” McMillan said. “There's more coming today, tomorrow, tomorrow. It would be nice if they get all the British flags sitting together. Maybe make a bit more noise. It's amazing having them here.
“A lot of family and friends who obviously travel the world supporting us at the World Championships or Europeans.
“They weren't able to go to the Olympics in 2022. Getting them all here now is pretty special.”
