Mills and McIntyre claim silver at 470 Euros

Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre claimed a silver medal at the 470 European Sailing Championships in Vilamoura.

Rio 2016 Olympic champion Mills and partner McIntyre will compete in the same event in Tokyo this summer, and they finished strongly in the Euros in Portugal.

Sitting fourth coming into the final day’s action, they moved up the leaderboard to claim the silver medal behind French pair Camille Lecointre and Aloise Retornaz.

It was a strong performance after the fifth place earned by Mills and McIntyre, also in Vilamoura, at the World Championships in March.

The duo will be joined in Tokyo this summer by Luke Patience, the London 2012 silver medallist, and Chris Grube, who were in action in the men’s 470 event.

They finished sixth overall, pipped at the post by compatriots Martin Wrigley and Alexander Hughes who grabbed fifth.

The 470 mixed event is not an Olympic class, however there was some more British success as Vita Heathcote and Ryan Orr claimed a bronze medal.
