Milano Cortina 2026: Team GB move towards medals on Day 2

Team GB continued its push for medal chances on day two of Milano Cortina 2026.

Snowboarder Mia Brookes booked her place in the women’s big air final, while curlers Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds rounded off their mixed doubles round robin campaign in style with victory over reigning champions Italy.

Elsewhere, cross-country skier Andrew Musgrave joined an elite club as he appeared at his fifth Winter Olympics.

Brookes goes big

Mia Brookes brought lots of energy and plenty of tricks to qualify for Monday’s snowboard big air final.

The 19-year-old was making her Olympic debut but showed no signs of nerves despite missing the landing on her opening run.

She responded with a huge second run, scoring 89.00, before sealing her place in the final with her third run, ultimately qualifying in third.

"That was insane, I loved it. Every minute was awesome,” she said.

"After that first run I was so nervous but you just have to take your time at the top, not rush into anything.

"It really came out of me in an athlete way, keeping cool under the pressure, not really making any rash decisions or rushing anything. It was nice to see that come from inside myself.

"That third one was special to land. You are definitely in the air thinking about it in the back of your mind spinning like, ‘Oh my God I’ve got to land this’.”

Hill takes pride

Fellow snowboarder Maisie Hill did not qualify for the final, finishing 29th , but was swelled with pride after her Olympic debut.

The 24-year-old was told she might never walk again after a horrific crash but competed at the Olympic three years to the day after leaving hospital.

"I'm pretty proud of myself and it means a lot to be here,” she said. “But I've worked so hard and I never doubted myself to be honest.

"I was actually leaving hospital three years ago today after my injury. I was told I might never be able to walk again and so to be here now is quite cool. "People thought I was too old to do this because I didn't start as young as other people do but I always believed that I could."

Dodds and Mouat in control

Sunday evening also saw Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds clinch top spot in the curling mixed doubles round robin stage.

They beat Italian reigning champions Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner 9-6 in their final match, having tasted defeat for the first time in a 7-6 loss to Switzerland.

It means they will play the fourth-place team in Monday’s semi-final and will have hammer advantage.

Mouat said: “We have been working really hard, we played three events this year and won two of them, got to the final of the other one.

"We know that we are a tough team to beat, we have won the world championships, won silver at the worlds last year. We are a tough team.

“It’s what we’ve been working on for a long time. There are a lot of people to thank who got us here. "We’re just very pleased to be in the semi-finals and hopeful we can start off the game tomorrow well."

Musgrave joins the club

Elsewhere, Andrew Musgrave led British performances in the men’s cross-country 10km + 10km skiathlon.

Musgrave appeared at his fifth Olympics and finished 10th, his second-best result across his five Games.

Joe Davies finished 16th on his Olympic debut.
