Men's team sprint pick up stunning silver in the velodrome

Jack Carlin, Hamish Turnbull and Ed Lowe stormed to men's team sprint silver on the second day of velodrome action at Paris 2024.

The trio were up against a dominant Netherlands side who demolished the world record and became the first team in history to dip under 41 seconds in what turned out to be an historic final.

The British team took silver in a time of 41.814, their fastest time of the day, and just less than a second behind the winners in 40.949.

After coming into the Games with expectations to reach the bronze medal final, it was an incredible success for Carlin, Turnbull and Lowe.

"We came here expecting to fight for third so as soon as we got into that gold final all stress was off and we could just try to express what we could do and enjoy it," said Turnbull.

"It's a really nice feeling racing in front of this crowd, there are so many people on our shoulder and we really appreciate it."

Carlin, who took silver in the same event alongside Sir Jason Kenny and Ryan Owens at Tokyo 2020, was the final and most experienced man this time round, crossing the line to secure the silver as Turnbull and Lowe made their Olympic debuts.

And after building throughout the rounds, setting the second fastest time in qualifying and beating Germany in the first round, the three-time Olympic medallist was thrilled with his team's performance.

"I think we've executed three really solid races there and can be proud of that as a team," he said.

"We knew that we would be up against it coming into it but we stuck to our process and stuck to what we wanted from each race. We really focussed and knuckled down.

"It's obviously these two's first Olympians and both of them stepped up to the occasion and have a medal to show for it."
