Medal haul for Great Britain at the European Short Track Championships

Great Britain won a host of medals at the European Short Track Speed Skating Championships after Charlotte Gilmartin joined Elise Christie on the overall ladies podium.

Christie had already defended her 500m and 1500m titles in Sochi yesterday and she followed that up by winning all three of her races in the 1000m today to take the overall crown with a race to spare.

Gilmartin went on to claim the 3000m event, when Christie finished fifth, to take the overall silver medal on 47 points, with her British team-mate way out in front on 112 points.

And in the final race of the Championships, Great Britain won bronze in the men’s 5000m relay, which was won by Netherlands and saw Hungary come second.

Britain’s Jack Whelbourne and Farrell Treacy came 12th and 23rd in the men’s overall standings, as gold went to Russia’s Semen Elistratov, with Hungary’s Sándor Liu Shaolin claiming silver and France’s Vincent Jeanne taking bronze.

The women’s 3000m relay was also won by Netherlands, with Russia and Italy taking second and third respectively.
