Krakow 2023: Three magical moments from day two of the European Games

Team GB showed their strength in day two of action at the European Games with three standout medal moments.

Success in the pool and on the BMX track moved Team GB up to eighth in the overall medal table.

History made in the pool

Ranjuo Tomblin and Beatrice Crass kicked off Team GB's medal count in style, claiming a brilliant bronze in the mixed duet technical in the morning.

The duo have competed as a pair for the past year and are making waves everywhere they go, adding a bronze in Poland to their already impressive CV.

Their exciting technical routine also put Tomblin in the history books as the first male to ever win a major medal in artistic swimming for Team GB.

"This is such an honour," he said.

"We've been wanting to represent Team GB, get in that kit and looking down at the rings, it is really an honour and really happy that we are able to do that."

Crass added: "We’re both really excited about the future, we have the Mixed Free on the fourth day of this competition and so we’ll be keeping up the same energy as we move towards that."

A golden result in the BMX Freestyle Park

Team GB's medal haul kept growing in the afternoon as Kieran Reilly flipped his way to gold in the BMX Freestyle Park.

A sensational second run left the 21-year-old with 92.33 points which was enough to climb above France’s Anthony Jeanjean and top the overall standings.

Before today, three-time champion Jeanjean was the only athlete to have won the European Championships in the men’s BMX freestyle, but Reilly has put an end to that impressive run.

“I’ve been chasing this with a vengeance for the past year to get a run down, at this event, which was 100% and I got that done today,” said Reilly.

“We’ve got some amazing riders so to be the first one is amazing and just adds to how good of an event this was for me.”

Sharing the spotlight

Tokyo bronze-medallist Declan Brooks joined his teammate on the podium in the freestyle park, scooping up another deserved bronze.

The Olympian produced an incredible first run with a score of 87.40, but was denied silver by Jeanjean following the Frenchman’s final run.

“We both came here to get on the podium and we both did it,” Brooks said.

“My goal was to put down a run that I was pleased with and that I’d practiced at home, and that’s what I did.

“For Kieran to go and win it makes all of it worth it.”
