June round-up: Hodgkinson breaks record and Hunter Bell parades

As the UK sizzled under the heatwave sun, British athletes made their opponents sweat with World-leading performances in June. Collecting strong results on home soil and on the continent, here’s what Team GB athletes got up to.

Keely raises the bar

Defending 800m Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson set a new personal best and broke the British 800m record at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting in Sweden.

Despite crossing the line in record time at 1:54.33, good enough for the sixth-fastest 800m performance of all time, Hodgkinson was beaten to the race win by Switzerland's Audrey Werro.

With the London Athletics Meet only weeks away, on Saturday 18 June at the London Stadium, the European and World indoor champion is getting ready to impress in front of home support.

World indoor champion Georgia Hunter Bell charged to a 1500m season’s best on the way to her second Diamond League victory of the season in Paris.

Hunter Bell picked up her second win of her Diamond League campaign following an unstoppable performance in Rome in May.

McNeice climbs onto another podium

Erin McNeice claimed two more podium finishes in Prague and Innsbruck to stay top of the women’s Boulder World Climbing Series.

The 2025 World Cup Lead champion won two silver medals this month in Czechia and Switzerland in the boulder discipline, marking her fourth medal this year.

After lead success in 2025, she now clambers towards a second World Title in as many years, showcasing her skill across both formats.

Brown flies in Rome

Sky Brown claimed silver at the WST World Cup in Rome, with a performance at the top of the Park field kicking off her qualification campaign for LA 2028.

The two-time skateboarding bronze medallist, who made her Olympic debut as Team GB’s youngest-ever Olympian in 2021 at 13 years old, took the lead through the semi-final and the opening two rounds of the final.

Brown attempted a backside 450 in her Golden Run, chasing Japan’s Mizuho Hasegawa, but fell on her final run as the 17-year-old left it all out on the course.

The competition in the Italian capital was the first event where Brown could pick up ranking points to earn her place at the 2028 Games, and the youngster has started as she means to go on.

Rowers roar to golds

British Olympic boats picked up seven medals at the final World Cup regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland, to finish second in the overall 2026 World Rowing Cup standings.

Brits topped the medal table in Lucerne with gold in five Olympic boat classes, including the women’s quadruple sculls, led by Olympic champions Hannah Scott and Lola Anderson, alongside Paris 2025 gold medallist Imogen Grant and Finnola Stratton.

The men’s quad were also victorious through Cedol Dafydd, Callum Dixon, Tobias Schröder and Rory Harris, as Dan Graham, James Robson, Douwe de Graaf and George Bourne soared to gold in the men’s fours.

Lauren Henry claimed victory in the women’s single sculls while the women’s eights also stood at the top of the podium.

The men’s eights won silver, while the women’s four quartet clinched bronze medals.

Best of British athletics crowned

The UK Athletics Championships in Birmingham, set the bar for the European Athletics Championships in the West Midlands next month.

Double Olympic bronze medallist Amber Anning set a new British championship record in the 400m to clinch a third consecutive national title. Meanwhile, Amy Hunt pipped Dina Asher-Smith by 0.12 seconds to remain queen of the 100m.

Romell Glave is officially the fastest British man after dethroning Zharnel Hughes in the 100m, while Matthew Hudson-Smith and Jake Wightman took back their places at the summit of the 400m and 800m respectively.

On the field, Lawrence Okoye set a British Championships record in the discus throw.

Cricket heads to LA28

Team GB will have the opportunity to win the first women’s cricket Olympic gold medal in history as the sport returns to the Games after last appearing at the second Olympiad of 1900.

The National Olympic Committee has picked up a quota spot via England's run to the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
