Hill clinches Olympic quota spot with shooting World Cup win

Shooter Amber Hill outlined her intentions ahead of Tokyo 2020 this summer with women’s skeet gold at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi - earning her an Olympic quota place for Team GB.

The 23-year-old is vying to make her second Games appearance at the rescheduled event in Japan having made it to the semi-finals on debut in Rio five years ago, eventually finishing sixth.

And she took one step closer towards making that a reality with a strong showing in India, topping the qualification ranks before holding her nerve in a tie shoot in the final with Kazakhstan’s Zoya Kravchenko.

After both shooters scored 51 points in the final, world No.5 Hill demonstrated her class with four successful attempts in the shoot off, to her opponent’s three.

While Kravchenko was forced to settle for silver, home favourite Ganemat Sekhon completed the podium in third, with a score of 40 in the final.

Since bursting onto the shooting scene with a skeet World Cup gold aged just 15 Hill has gone on to win European Games gold and Commonwealth silver, and she will now be itching to challenge for a medal in Tokyo, pending selection.

In the men’s skeet final in New Delhi, GB’s Karl Frederick Killander scored 34 to finish fourth, with first place going to Denmark’s Jesper Hansen.
