A second consecutive World Cup silver took Mallory Franklin to the top of the International Canoe Federation World Cup series standings after another impressive display in Augsburg.
The 23-year-old starred in Prague just last week, finishing only behind fellow British canoeist Kimberley Woods, with silver once again the order of the day in the C1.
Woods was this time to fall at the semi-final stage on a tough course in Germany, but Franklin maintained her consistency in impressive style.
She finished ten seconds behind three time world champion Jess Fox, from Australia, but there was clear water between the Brit and Germany’s Lena Stoecklin, who picked up the bronze medal.
“It’s a really, really tough course with a lot of parts that are all on top of each other, but I’m pleased with the result in the end,” said Franklin.
“I enjoyed it and that’s my main goal for the year, to try and enjoy every race no matter the outcome and have fun.
“Obviously on that run I had some mistakes [incurring a two-second penalty for touching gate 16] but it’s a case of keep re-focussing, keep getting back into it and trying to make it so that you come at each move and each gate fresh.
“My consistency has been really good and it’s coming through in my kayak.
“The thing is to build and learn from each race and keep the consistency up, which is slowly building stronger and stronger performances.”
Franklin wasn’t quite able to make it a double header in Augsburg however, though once again put in an assured K1W performance to finish fourth, one place ahead of Fiona Pennie.
Woods missed out in the semi-finals, as did three-time Olympic silver medallist David Florence, Adam Burgess and Ryan Westley in the men’s equivalent.
Phoebe Spicer also exited in the semi-finals of the C1, alongside Bradley Forbes-Cryans, Rio 2016 Olympic K1 gold medallist Joe Clarke and Chris Bowers.
