Team GB history-maker Montell Douglas called time on her second sporting career after finishing 17th with pilot Mica McNeill in the 2-woman bobsleigh competition.
The former sprinter became the first woman to represent Team GB at both Summer and Winter Games just by making the start line in Yanqing.
Four heats of racing saw McNeill steer the duo to 17th, with Douglas confirming her plans to step away from sliding immediately after their final run.
"I’ve had the best time and a very long career," said Douglas, who competed in the 100m and 4x100m on the track at Beijing 2008.
"I never say never but I want to make an impact in sport in a different kind of way and add value.
"I’ve led from the front and made a little bit of history myself to show that you can do anything you put your mind to.
"Maybe I will not be on the block with a helmet on in the very near future but I’m hoping to stay in sport in some capacity."
The pair were 19th at the halfway mark but were much improved on the second day of racing, posting the 14th and 13th fastest times to climb up the rankings
"We made some changes overnight and it worked out," said McNeill.
"It’s very disappointing that we didn’t do it in the first two runs as who knows where we would be. But we can walk away proud of the performance."
After self-funding their way to Beijing, McNeill may not be following Douglas' lead just yet but the 28-year-old is still in need of some time away from the sport.
"I need a massive mental and physical break," said McNeill. "The two Games that I’ve been involved in, the lead-up has been a really difficult journey.
"The past four years has been a huge mountain to climb. A lot of ups and downs but probably more downs. I’m going to go away reset, re-evaluate and who knows what the future holds."
