Double Olympic medallist Page adds European title to collection

Double Olympic medallist Bryony Page revealed it was a long-time dream come true after she won European gold in Rimini.

The trampolining sensation added the European crown to the Tokyo bronze and individual world title she won during a fantastic 2021.

Page had qualified in first place and produced another sublime routine in Sunday’s final to score 55.410 which was enough to give the 31-year-old her second European gold in as many days after she stormed to glory with Izzy Songhurst in the synchronised discipline.

“It feels amazing. I’ve dreamt about this for a while and have been looking forward to the competition,” said Page who became the first British trampolinist to win an Olympic medal when she won silver at Rio 2016.

“I had a bit of a blip on day two of training, so to get back up there, compete in the prelims, to win the synchro title yesterday and then this today.

“This was the last day of competition and it was a little bit tiring but I tried to find some strength. It’s just really exciting.”

Page and Songhurst topped the synchronised podium by almost a full mark on Saturday after registering 47.750 in their final routine and both were overjoyed with what was an incredible result.

Page said: “We came into this competition knowing our capabilities. We went out there and hit our routine.

“We've been waiting to do synchro together for so long so it was exciting to be there in the final. And to be able to do the routine we did, it's just a big relief and really joyful."

Songhurst added: “Our main aim was to come out and enjoy it, and gain that experience of doing synchro together, and to come out with a European title is just amazing.”
