Davies first man to race in ski cross for Team GB

Ollie Davies became the first British male to represent Team GB in ski cross at the Olympics on Day 14 of the Games.

The 24-year-old from Guildford exited Beijing 2022 at the 1/8 finals having qualified 31st fastest in the seeding race.

Davies made a small error at the start of his race and slipped to the back of the pack and with the course at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou not particularly suited to overtaking, he fought hard but was unable to pass up through the places.

β€œIt's pretty raw right now, I'm pretty gutted. I made a mistake at the start and I was playing catch-up from then onwards,” explained Davies after his Olympic debut.

"It's a track that's not particularly easy to pass and I was too far off at the back from one mistake at the start, that's it.

β€œI had to fight back to the pack which took a lot. There was maybe a possibility in the second last corner but I got compressed and lost the juice."

Davies made history last year becoming the first Brit to ski in the big final of a World Championships, taking an excellent fourth place.

But he was unable to produce similar heroics on this occasion, instead turning his focus to the next Olympic cycle as he bids to get better and better.

Davies said: β€œI want to come back and do better. Same thing, more work, more grind and just as much racing to come back stronger.

"Right now I'm still processing what happened but hopefully I can reflect and come back."
