Daley and Peaty nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2021

Team GB aquatics heroes Tom Daley and Adam Peaty have both been nominated for Sports Personality of the Year.

It is the latest chapter in an incredible year for the pair, that saw Peaty retain his Olympic title and Daley strike Olympic gold at the fourth attempt.

They are joined on the shortlist by Paralympic cyclist Sarah Storey, tennis star Emma Raducanu, footballer Raheem Sterling and boxer Tyson Fury.

The awards show will take place on Sunday 19 December and voting will open, over the phone and online, on the night itself.

Other awards to be announced include Young Sports Personality of the Year, Team and Coach of the Year, World Sport Star of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and Unsung Hero.

Nomination marks another accolade for Daley, who won the GB Choice award alongside Matty Lee and Olympians' Olympian honour at the Team GB Ball.

"To be recognised by the British public feels very, very overwhelming," said Daley. "I've achieved everything I've ever wanted this year."

Swimmer Peaty scooped the Sportsman of the Year award at the British Sports Awards after a superb Olympics that saw him win two golds and a silver.

"It's been an incredible year," said Peaty. "I'm just happy the Olympics went ahead and I was able to do what I did, to become the first British swimmer ever to defend a title."

Recent winners of the award to have represent Team GB include Geraint Thomas (2018), Mo Farah (2017) and Andy Murray (2013, 2015, 2016).
