British Olympic Foundation pilots school holiday sport sessions

The British Olympic Foundation, the charitable arm of Team GB, has partnered with Wiltshire Council’s FUEL programme to deliver a pilot programme of Olympic sport taster sessions during the Easter holidays.

The FUEL programme runs activity camps during the school holidays for children who are eligible for benefit related free school meals, helping them to eat healthily and stay active with free access to nutritious meals and enrichment activities.

The pilot programme will give children in four of the FUEL camps across Wiltshire the opportunity to take part in Olympic sports such as judo and table tennis from today (Monday 3 April) until Thursday 6 April 2023, coinciding with Paris 2024’s Olympic and Paralympic Week 2023 taking place in France.

Jamie Piggins, Olympic Relations Manager at Team GB said, “The British Olympic Foundation is delighted to be partnering with Wiltshire Council’s FUEL Programme to offer local children the chance to take part in and be inspired by Olympic sport. This partnership will allow us to trial a new model of delivery, providing feedback and insight to inform future programmes.”

Cllr Ian Blair-pilling, Cabinet Member for Leisure said, “This is a very exciting opportunity for children and young people in Wiltshire from families eligible for benefit related free school meals to try out a range of Olympic sports. The FUEL programme and our partnership with the British Olympic Foundation supports Wiltshire Council’s aim of tackling inequalities and empowering people to live full, healthy and enriched lives.

The British Olympic Foundation aims to develop the Olympic Movement and encourage participation and awareness of Olympic sport within the UK. With a variety of initiatives including the award-winning Get Set education programme, workshops, conferences, international exchanges and educational resources, it creates learning opportunities for young people through sport and education to encourage personal development, fair play and personal excellence.
