Sir Hugh Robertson, Chair of the British Olympic Association, said:
"Everyone in the British Olympic and Paralympic family will be shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Sir David Amess.
"As Co Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Olympic and Paralympic Games, he was a great supporter of both organisations and had only recently been in touch to pass on the Group’s congratulations for the performance of the athletes in Tokyo.
"Our thoughts are with his family and constituents. He was a genuinely lovely man and will be hugely missed."
