London will celebrate almost two years since the 2012 Olympics this week as Horse Guards Parade gets set for a festival of athletics. We take a look at the week of Olympic sport below.
The second edition of the Anniversary Games will take place on Sunday as Horse Guards Parade and the Mall are transferred into an athletics arena ready to welcome the world’s best.
A $1million budget will attract the best Olympic and Paralympic athletes on the planet for events starting in the afternoon and going onto the evening, concluding with a men’s 100m race.
Last year’s inaugural Anniversary Games were a three-day celebration at the Olympic Stadium however the actual birthday, July 27, this year clashes with the Commonwealth Games.
Before Sunday, the Diamond League circuit moves to Monaco from Glasgow while cycling’s Tour de France continues with Geraint Thomas and Simon Yates left leading the British charge.
Diving’s World Cup kicks off in Shanghai with Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley heading up Britain’s team and fencing hosts its World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
