Great Britain’s Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas both secured top-ten finishes in the Paris-Roubaix in an action-packed race that Holland’s Niki Terpstra won convincingly.
The race, being run for the 112th time, was nicely poised with 8km to go with a group of 11 elite riders that included Wiggins, Thomas, defending champion Fabian Cancellara, four-time winner Tom Boonen and Peter Sagan, heading for the finish.
But it was the 29-year-old Terpstra who made a move 6.3km from the finish which proved to be too much for anyone to match.
The Dutchman eventually crossed the line 20 seconds ahead of runner-up John Degenkolb, while Cancellara completed the podium in third.
Thomas finished down in seventh and his Team Sky teammate Wiggins managed an impressive ninth place.
