Three-time Olympian McKenna takes on new role at BSS

Three-time Olympian Lesley McKenna insists she is relishing her growing list of duties after being appointed as British Ski and Snowboard’s new park and pipe programme manager.

The 39-year-old, current British freestyle snowboard coach, takes on the new position less than four months to go until the start of next year’s Olympics in Sochi.

McKenna enjoyed a fine career on the snow claiming six World Cup podiums, including two wins, in addition to her appearances at Salt Lake 2002, Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010.

The role entails managing the park and pipe programme for both freeski and freestyle snowboard as well as the athletes, coaches and staff involved – something McKenna is savouring.

“I am very excited to be working with such a great team of athletes, coaches and support staff under the BSS banner in the run up to the Sochi Winter Olympics and also looking forward to Pyeongchang in 2018,” she said.

“The freestyle snowboard and freeski scene in the UK has gone from strength to strength in the last years and there is so much potential within the BSS program.

“It is nice to have come full circle and be behind the scenes helping our current crop of very talented athletes and staff challenge the best in the world.”
