Team GB in Action Day 2 EYOWF

Darcie Mead (Kingston-Upon Thames) takes to the slopes of Poiana Braşov for the start of the alpine competition where she competes in the girls' giant slalom. Mead who lists Britain’s Chemmy Alcott as an inspiration will be hoping she can follow in Alcott’s skis who medalled at the 1999 EYOWF.

Cross country skiers Sarah Hale and James Clugnet also begin their EYOWF, competing in the 7.5km free technique and 10km free technique respectively.

Cross country Team Leader Ekaterina Dudorova said:

“The course is very good, quite technical with lots of uphills and downhills. The athletes really liked it in training and it will suit their racing style so we are really looking forward to the first day of competition.”

GB’s short track speed skaters are also back on the ice when they contest the 500m on day two of their competition. After solid performances from all four team members and qualification for the mixed 3000m relay semi finals under their belts all four are looking forward to competing again.

Speaking after the mixed relay heats Jack Burrows said:

"To finish off the day with the relay was a great confidence boost; we qualified through the first round finishing just behind France in second place. The ice is good for sprinting as we have just shown in the relay so I think we can do well tomorrow.
