Andrew Osagie ran a personal best to claim third place over 800 metres in the Diamond League meeting in Doha.
The 24-year-old from Essex crossed the line in one minute 44.64 seconds, with world record holder David Rudisha of Kenya winning the race in a world-leading time of 1:43.10secs. Osagie's compatriot Michael Rimmer finished sixth in 1.44.86.
Perri Shakes-Drayton was also third in the women's 400m hurdles in 55.25 as Jamaica's Melaine Walker won the race in 54.62 - the best time of 2012 so far.
American sprinter Justin Gatlin outgunned Jamaican rival Asafa Powell in the men's 100m. Powell led before Gatlin, the 2004 Olympic champion who has served a four-year drugs ban, powered back in the final 30m to win the race in 9.87, 0.01 ahead of Powell.
Controversial American sprinter LaShawn Merritt was victorious in the 400m as Martyn Rooney, sixth over the distance at the 2008 Olympics, came fourth. Merritt returned to the track last year after being banned for almost two years for a doping offence.
Greg Rutherford, whose leap of 8.35m in California earlier this month is the best anywhere so far this year, finished fourth in the long jump in Qatar with a best of 7.98m, 24cm adrift of Russia's Aleksandr Menkov.
Samson Oni finished fourth in the high jump, his best of 2.27m beaten by a world-leading 2.32m from Greece's Dimitrios Chondrokoukis, while Kate Dennison was level fourth in the women's pole vault with a best effort of 4.50m.
Another season's best time was set in the women's 800m, where Kenya's Pamela Jelimo triumphed in 1:56.94, with Britain's Emma Jackson fifth in 1:59.37.
Stephanie Twell was 13th in the 3,000m in a race won by Kenya's Vivian Cheruiyot, who just held off the challenge of Ethiopian rival Meseret Defar.
Goldie Sayers finished fifth in the women's javelin with a best throw of 61.03m.
