Oates claims European Open judo gold

Great Britain's Colin Oates claimed gold at judo's European Open with a quick-fire victory in Glasgow.

Oates - who finished seventh at last year's London 2012 Olympics - defeated Belgium's Jasper Lefevere in the -66kg final thanks to a quick sweep ippon.

British team-mate Jan Gosiewski, a silver medallist at the European Open in Estonia earlier this year, narrowly missed out on a podium place - settling for fifth after a quick-fire ippon defeat against Russia's Egor Rybin.

Double world bronze medallist Euan Burton competes in Sunday's -100kg class while other British medal hopes include Miami Grand Prix winner Tom Reed in the -81kg and London 2012 Olympian Chris Sherrington, a bronze medallist at the Samsun Grand Prix, in the heavyweight +100kg class.
