A mixed day at the Nations Cup saw Great Britain finish fourth at the Dublin Horse show showjumping, with hosts Ireland claiming the Aga Khan Trophy in the final leg of the FEI 5* Top Level Nations Cup series.

It was not enough however to secure overall victory with Germany crowned champions with 48 points as Britain finished fourth with 38.5, with France second and Ireland third.

Taking the role of pathfinder for Great Britain in the first round in Ireland was Olympic gold medallist Nick Skelton, who on Beverley Widdowson's Carlo knocked four fences down, registering 16 penalties.

Robert Smith riding Voila replicated that score, but Tina Fletcher on Hello Sailor pulled things back for Great Britain with a clear round within the time allowed before John Whitaker on Argento produced a perfect round.

Entering the second round the British riders were fourth, just a point behind France and Sweden with the hosts a point further clear.

Skelton produced a flawless second round, however Smith and Voila were once again caught out at a vertical, this time the Longines poles early on in the course, giving them a finish of four penalties.

Fletcher and Hello Sailor registered another clean round; one of just four achieved throughout the 40 rounds of jumping.

However Whitaker with Argento, retired having incurred penalties and knowing they could not better the score leaving Great Britain on a total finish score of nine penalties.

It left France and Ireland to fight it out for first place but a fence down by Kevin Staut meant the hosts were winners without final rider Cian O'Connor needing to jump.
