Dujardin delight at Olympia

Charlotte Dujardin claims the thrill of competing at Olympia never gets old after leading a British 1-2-3 for the second night in a row by winning the dressage freestyle World Cup.

Triple Olympic gold medallist Dujardin and her horse Mount St John Freestyle, who won the freestyle Grand Prix 24 hours earlier, took centre stage on the podium once again in the dressage event, winning with a score of 87.520%.

Carl Hester, who won team gold at London 2012 with Dujardin, was second while Charlotte Fry finished third on her Olympia debut.

Hester and Fry finished behind Dujardin in the same positions in Monday’s Grand Prix event.

The victory was Dujardin’s tenth win at the iconic show and she was delighted her Tokyo hopeful ride Mount St John Freestyle was able to rise to the occasion.

“I’m absolutely over the moon with the performance. What a way to finish the year,” she said.

“She [Mount St John] is still so green and there’s so much to come from her. There are still moments where I have to hold her hand and give her confidence.

“Dealing with that environment is quite tough. It was a full house and you could really feel the atmosphere as we went in around the edge, but I was happy with how she dealt with it.

“It was always my childhood dream to ride here and every year it gets even more exciting. It’s magical to ride in that arena and I feel so lucky to be able to do it.”
