Cullen makes comeback after three-year absence

After three years on the sidelines Crista Cullen will return to the Great Britain fold after being named in Danny Kerry’s squad for hockey's World League Final in Argentina.

Kerry has named an 18-strong squad for the trip to Rosario with 30-year-old Cullen returning for the first time since London 2012.

The defender did turn out for two practice matches in October and is one of three changes made by Kerry to the squad that qualified for the Rio Olympics in June.

Britain are among eight teams heading to Argentina for the tournament and are in a pool with the hosts as well as Australia and China.

And Kerry is excited to take on some of the best in the world as his side continue their preparations for the Olympics.

“It will provide us team and individual competition development exposure,” he said. “There will understandably be media interest in Crista Cullen’s selection.

“Fundamentally the test series and tournament provides Crista with an opportunity to get some much needed match play after only completing two practice internationals since her last outing at the London Olympic Games.

“Crista has returned to the GB programme in great physical shape and now needs exposure to high standard international match play.

“As ever we will take a game by game approach and have faith in our preparation. This approach has served us well through 2015 and we will continue to build toward Rio and beyond.” Sportsbeat 2015
