Donna Creighton had a watching brief when Amy Williams struck Olympic skeleton gold in Vancouver - now she's determined to be part of the action.
Creighton was a travelling reserve in 2010, the same position Williams occupied four years earlier in Turin when Shelley Rudman won her Olympic silver.
This week she will look to join Rudman, who has been pre-selected, and secure one of the two remaining slots on the British women's skeleton team for the forthcoming World Cup season.
Creighton will go up against former world medallist Lizzy Yarnold plus Rose McGrandle and Laura Daes over four potentially season-defining runs in Altenberg.
And she acknowledges making the team could be a major step towards Olympic selection next January.
Creighton ranked sixth in the world two seasons ago, finished 21st at last year's World Championships in St Moritz and 19th at the Olympic test event in Sochi.
"I went to Vancouver as a reserve and I got a whole buzz and feel for the Games but still had that nagging disappointment of being there but not competing," she said.
"That really drives me on as we get closer to Sochi. I've been to an Olympics, now I want to become an Olympian.
"We've got an amazing programme, world class coaches and top of the range equipment, so anybody who goes for Great Britain has the potential of winning a medal.
"We're fortunate that we've got real strength in depth, which pushes all of us on. This will be a nervous week because it will have a big impact on your season.
"It's really important to get on that World Cup squad, you want to be competing against the same guys week in, week out that you'd be up against at the Olympics.
"I'm good friends with Lizzy and we share the same coach and overall we're a close knit team right up until we are on the start block. Once we're on the sled, then we're rivals."
