Coldwell excited for 2013 after AYOF bronze

Triathlete Sophie Coldwell insists she is ready for the year that awaits after winning bronze at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

The 17-year-old began her Festival campaign on Friday but was unable to climb the podium in the individual women’s event as she finished eighth.

But Coldwell ensured that wasn’t the case 24 hours later as she joined forced with fellow Brits Georgia Taylor-Brown, Gordon Benson and Marc Austin for the mixed team relay.

The Team GB quartet went on to claim bronze with a combined time of 1:12:41hours with Australia Green claiming gold in 1:11:37 and Australia Gold taking silver narrowly behind.

Coldwell was delighted to have stood up to the test on a much cooler day in Sydney and is looking forward to more success in 2013.

“I was a little bit disappointed after finishing the individual event without a medal so it is really nice to put that behind me in the relay,” said Coldwell.

“It was good to come together as a team and put in a good performance and come away with a medal. We knew that both Australian teams would be strong and that is exactly what they were.

“It is our winter back at home so we are not really in race condition but it was good to stick with them as much as we did and give them a race.

“I am looking forward to getting back into training now and just getting ready for the new season and this is a great way to start.

“This is a great way to get going and it gives me a lot of confidence to go into training now and have a successful year.”
