Barker wins junior title

Great Britain's Elinor Barker won gold in the junior women's time-trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Holland on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Welshwoman completed the 15.6-kilometre route in Limburg in 22 minutes 26.29 seconds, 35 seconds clear of the field.

Denmark's Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig was second, with Holland's Demi de Jong third.

Barker, who finished with silver in 2011, said on www.cyclingweekly.co.uk: "I'm just so glad it's over and it's gone well.

"It was just so hard. I didn't feel great at the start but after the first couple of km I just got into a rhythm and just stuck with it.

"It's huge, this is all I've wanted since this day last year.

"It's all I've thought about. But it's not even sunk in yet."
