Aldama finishes fifth in triple jump

Yamile Aldama may not have won a medal at the Olympics but she took the backing of a deafening Olympic Stadium crowd in the triple jump.

The 39-year-old Havana-born athlete was roared down the runway and a huge cheer went up each time her name was announced, even though her 14.48m hop, step and jump only bagged her fifth place.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince Harry in the 80,000 strong crowd to cheer her on ahead of the appearance of the fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt, in the 100m final.
