Stuart Benson is another member of the GB1 Bobsleigh team that is relatively new to the sport, having followed a similar path to other bobsleigh athletes as having a history in sprinting. In fact in 2010, at the Crystal Palace Diamond League, he was part of the fastest 4x100m Scottish relay team for 16 years which narrowly missed out on the qualifying time for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
Following this disappointment, he was invited to attend a bobsleigh talent identification day in 2011, where his physical attributes and potential within the sport of bobsleigh was recognised. Before long, he had become a part of the GB1 bobsleigh team, lead by driver John Jackson, whose recent successes have included fifth place in the 2013 World Championships, and fifth in the 2013 Olympic test event in Sochi.
He now serves in the RAF as an Avionics Technician.
