Michael Rock made his Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. He was a member of the 4x100 medley relay team which finished. He also swam in the 200m butterfly finishing 12th, and 27th in the 100m butterfly. At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Rock, he finished seventh in the 200m butterfly, and 13th in the 100m butterfly where he swam a new British record. At the British Championships, he took gold in both the 100m and 200m butterfly for the second consecutive year. Rock was first selected for Great Britain in 2003, winning a brace of golds at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Paris. He is currently studying Law at Manchester University.Michael Rock once beat Michael Phelps at a duel in the pool meet in 2009 and is a graduate from the University of Manchester with a degree in law. Rock, an avid Liverpool FC fan, is inspired by the leadership and drive of Steven Gerrard. He can play the piano to a grade seven standard.
