Lizzie Deignan’s breakthrough on the road came in the 2009 season, as she won the white jersey for best young rider in the Giro d’Italia.
In 2012 she won both Omloop van het Hageland and Gent-Wevelgem, before making her Olympic debut in London with road race silver – Team GB’s first medal of the Games.
Two years later she picked up road race gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and then added the world title in 2015.
Wearing the rainbow jersey, she went on to dominate the spring of 2016, winning Omloop het Niewsblad, Strade Biance, the Tour of Flanders and Trofeo Aldredo Binda.
Her 2017 season was beset by illness and injury but she still managed to win her home race, the Tour de Yorkshire, and rack up three second places in the Ardennes Classics.
