Liam Heath became Team GB’s most successful Olympic canoeist after taking his personal medal tally to three at Rio 2016 – the same number as Tim Brabants but with a silver instead of Brabants’ bronze.

After winning bronze at London 2012, when competing alongside Jon Schofield in the men’s K2 200m, the pair upgraded to silver four years later in Brazil before Heath added solo gold to his haul with victory in the K1 200m final.

Success was to follow in 2017 too, completing the Canoe Sprint Grand Slam after taking gold at the World Championships in Czech Republic.

The birth of Heath's first child in September 2017 saw him take a year out from competing but he made his return at the end of 2018 and went on to regain his K1 200m world title in 2019 to secure his place at Tokyo 2020.
