Laura Muir made her breakthrough in 2013, winning 1500m bronze at the European Under-23 Championships in Finland, before going on to win the British title in both 2015 and 2016.

And she ran into the history books in 2016 when she broke double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes’ 12-year-old British 1500m record with a time of 3:55.22, and was also selected to represent Team GB in Rio, the same year.

The Scot finished seventh in the Olympic 1500m, but it was in 2017 when she stole the limelight, becoming European indoor champion in both the 1500m and 3000m, in Belgrade, before missing out on a world outdoor medal by the narrowest of margins in London.

Muir's dominance breathed new air in 2018 and extended outdoors, racing to 1500m gold at the European Championships and then in the prestigious Diamond League final.
