Hollie Avil was selected to represent Team GB in the triathlon at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Unfortunately, Avil had to pull out of the race during the cycling phase due to illness and did not finish. 2009 was a very sucessful season for Avil. She won the Junior London Triathlon and was crowned U23 World Champion in Melbourne, beating fellow Brits Jodie Stimpson and Vicky Holland who finished second and fourth respectively. From the village of Bugbrooke, near Northampton, Avil has had an incredible couple of years. Having dominated the European and World Junior Championships in 2007, she started 2008 with third and second place finishes in her debut world cup races.
