Fran Halsall will officially be Britain’s busiest swimmer in London having taken gold in both the 50m and 100m freestyle and silver in the 100m butterfly at the Olympic trials in March. As well as swimming those three events, Halsall will also form part of Britain’s 4x100m freestyle team and will be expected to form part of the 4x100m medley relay quartet. In total Halsall will therefore compete in five events in London however on her Olympic debut in Beijing in 2008 she actually swam six – the 4x200m freestyle missing from her repertoire this time.

Halsall used to live with fellow swimmer Lizzie Simmonds but now lives with boyfriend and GB hockey player Alastair Wilson after they met at the Beijing Games. After winning world 100m freestyle silver in Rome in 2009, Halsall treated herself to a new dog, a Lhasa Apso, and is one of the most charismatic members of Britain’s Olympic team.Halsall overcame surgery to fix an ongoing ankle problem in 2011 and was scouted by her now coach, Ben Titley, as a 12-year-old while swimming for City of Liverpool.
