David Davies won an Olympic silver medal in the new Olympic event of 10km open water swim, narrowly being edged out by gold medal winner Maarten van der Weijden of the Netherlands. At the 2009 World Championships Davies placed fourth in the 800m freestyle swimming a new British record, placed 6th in the 1500m freestyle and 8th in the 400m freestyle. In 1999, Davies was selected to swim for the Welsh U15 team and has not looked back since. He broke through the ranks to be selected for the British junior team in 2001. Davies competed at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Spain and won the silver in the 200m. He won a second silver medal as part of the 4X200m Freestyle Team. However, it was in 2002 that Davies made a real splash in the swimming world. At the European Short Course Championships in Austria Davies finished in second place in the 1500m freestyle and won a bronze medal as part of the 4X200m Freestyle Team.Davies is an avid Cardiff City FC fan.
