Wrist surgery rules Wilson out of Glasgow World Cup

Nile Wilson will miss out on a return to Glasgow this year after undergoing surgery on his wrist.

Wilson shone in the Scottish city at this summer’s Commonwealth Games with England, winning team and horizontal bar gold as well as collecting parallel bars silver and all-around bronze.

But the World Championships were a different story, as although he finished an impressive fourth in the high bar event, Wilson withdrew from the all-around final due to a wrist injury and was replaced by Max Whitlock – who went on to win silver.

And the wrist injury is the reason the 18-year-old will not be competing in Scotland again this year as he will sit out the Glasgow World Cup which takes place on December 6.

However Wilson, who also won a record-breaking five European junior gold medals at the start of the year, is remaining upbeat.

"Everyone has setbacks, it's how we deal with them that makes us the people or athletes we are," stated Wilson on his Facebook page.

"I will come back stronger, bigger and better."
