Woods underlines potential with European sixth

Rising star Kimberley Woods recorded an encouraging top six finish at the canoe slalom European Championships in Kraków.

World junior champion Woods, 17, finished 24 seconds behind gold medallist, France's Caroline Loir, in the women's C1 final.

Elsewhere, two-time Olympic silver medallist David Florence - who missed making his individual final by one place - combined with Mark Proctor and Tom Quinn as Great Britain ranked fifth in the men's C1 team event.

Richard Hounslow was the best placed British canoeist in the men's K1 final, ranking eighth as the Czech Republic's Jiri Prskavec finished just over four seconds ahead to take gold.

British Olympic champions Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott and silver medallists Hounslow and Florence are among 26 pairs entered in Sunday's C2 competition.
