Wins for Rutherford and Sayers in Rabat

Greg Rutherford and Goldie Sayers both claimed victories at the Meeting International Mohammed VI in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday evening.

Rutherford won the long jump with a best effort of 8.17 metres ahead of Aleksandr Menkov of Russia and fellow Briton Chris Tomlinson, who leapt 8.01m.

Sayers won the women's javelin with a throw of 62.35 metres, almost two metres better than nearest challenger Katharina Molitor of Germany.

World champion Dai Greene was second behind former world and Olympic champion Felix Sanchez in the 400m hurdles. The Welshman finished in 48.96, 0.03 behind Sanchez with team-mate Jack Green third in 49.45. Nathan Woodward was fifth (50.18).

Marlon Devonish was sixth in the 200m in 21.00 while Mervyn Luckwell came fourth in the javelin with 74.67m.

Lynsey Sharp was in fine form in the 800m, coming fourth in 2:01.12. Julia Bleasdale was 15th in the 5,000m in 16:00.75 with fellow Briton Emma Pallant failing to finish.
