Nile Wilson hopes he can repeat his landmark European title in Rio as he continued preparation for the Olympic Games by becoming the first Team GB male to win the high bar title.
Wilson, the last to complete his routine in Bern, scored 15.300 points to overtake team-mate Kristian Thomas, who scored silver with 15.000 points.
And 20-year-old Wilson said: “That feeling is just incredible.
“You train your whole life for moments like that standing on the top of podium singing the national anthem with a gold medal.
“To be standing there with our team captain Kristian, someone who has helped me so much and is such a great role model, makes it even more special.
“I felt the nerves before my routine but had to stay focussed, I knew I had it in me and I did it.
“We move forward to focus on Rio now – let’s do this!”
There were fourth-place finishes for Louis Smith on the pommel horse and Courtney Tulloch on the rings.
Dan Purvis placed eighth in the floor final, with Thomas sixth.
And Thomas also competed in the vault final, eventually finishing fourth after a scoring 15.533 from his first effort.
The London 2012 bronze medal winner said: “I’ve had a brilliant week, it’s been all about consistency and proving the kind of from I’m in and to then end with a silver medal on the podium with a team-mate is perfect.
“It’s a great way to end the event personally and for GB.
“Nile deserves huge credit to go last out and produce a routine like that.”
