Amy Tinkler admitted she had to pinch herself after marking her Australian Youth Olympic Festival debut with gymnastics silverware.
The 13-year-old had to wait until the third day of the Festival to make her bow as part of the Team GB quartet for the women’s artistic team competition.
But the wait was worth it as Tinkler helped Britain top score in three of the four apparatus to win silver behind China with total of 160.064.
Tinkler achieved the highest mark on the floor with a score of 13.800, leaving her confidence high for Sunday’s individual event.
“It was amazing out there, it was such a good competition and we are all so pleased to have won a medal,” said Tinkler, who teamed up with Tyesha Mattis, Teal Grindle and Catherine Lyons.
“We didn’t expect it at all so to do that and beat China on three pieces was brilliant and better than we could have hoped for really.
"When I saw my floor score it was amazing and to win it was just an amazing feeling.
“I just want to keep working hard and hopefully improve even further when the individual competition starts – this has given me a lot of confidence.”
